Proclamation for the Creation of The Science Survival Academy

WHEREAS, scientific research is a profoundly discursive, iterative, and communal pursuit that demands guidance, reflection, and support;

WHEREAS, the process of identifying research opportunities is fraught with ambiguity and interpretive challenge, and requires deep disciplinary awareness;

WHEREAS, the competitive nature of academic and research-based professions imposes structural and psychological barriers to participation and contribution;

WHEREAS, technology, both enabling and disruptive, has transformed the epistemic landscape and modes of scholarly inquiry;

Now, Therefore, I, John Garger, President and Founder, do hereby proclaim the creation of The Science Survival Academy, an institution dedicated to the intellectual and practical flourishing of researchers and research across all scientific disciplines, under the following provisions:

  3. Challenge dogma and encourage reflective, rigorous, and ethical engagement with scientific knowledge production;

  4. Support researchers through education, dialogue, and participation, especially in navigating the unspoken norms of the pursuit of knowledge through the conduction of science;

  5. Create a community of thoughtful inquiry, cross-disciplinary respect, and mutual aid among those who care deeply about science.

Article II. Fellows of the Academy

  1. The Academy shall be advised by a body known as The Fellows Council.

  2. Fellows shall be individuals recognized for their commitment to the improvement, integrity, and survival of science.

  4. The Fellows Council shall serve in an advisory capacity and assist in shaping the Academy’s curriculum, content, and strategic direction.

Article III. Membership

  1. Membership in the Academy shall be open to all who engage in or support scientific research in a spirit of honesty, curiosity, and dedication to progress.

  2. Members need not hold any formal degree, credential, or institutional affiliation.

  3. All Members shall affirm a commitment to rigorous, forthright, and constructive engagement with scientific questions, debates, and practices.

  4. The Academy shall make available to its Members opportunities for learning, collaboration, mentoring, and contribution.

Article IV. Governance and Operation

  1. The Academy shall be led by a President, who shall oversee its development, operations, and public mission.

  3. The Academy may offer lectures, courses, workshops, publications, mentorship programs, and other forms of scholarly engagement.

  4. The Academy shall strive for inclusivity, transparency, and intellectual openness in all its functions.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, and on behalf of The Fellows Council, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of The Science Survival Academy to be affixed this 1st day of January, Two Thousand and Twenty.
